Violist Michel Camille

Michel Camille, born in London to Finnish and British parents, began his musical journey with a full scholarship to Wells Cathedral School at age 11. This specialist music school offered him frequent performance opportunities as a soloist and ensemble musician. During this period, he performed with Yehudi Menuhin, Yfrah Neamen, Norman del Mar, and Igor Ozim, showcasing his talent across Europe, North America, and Asia.

Since 1995, Michel Camille has been the viola player of the Esbjerg Ensemble, serving as its Artistic Director from 1997 to 2001. Denmark’s premier chamber ensemble, the group is celebrated for its performances of contemporary and classical repertoire. In 1999, Camille founded the Esbjerg International Chamber Music Festival, collaborating with leading composers and chamber musicians to establish a significant cultural event in Denmark.

Michel Camille’s talent has been recognized with numerous awards, including the “Premier Prix” from the Guildhall School of Music, where he studied with Professor David Takeno, and the “Concerto Prize” at Banff Fine Arts, Canada. Early in his career, he served as principal violist with orchestras such as the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

Dedicated to chamber music, Camille has performed worldwide with the Esbjerg Ensemble and is actively collaborating with other ensembles, blending classical and contemporary genres. His work as an Artistic Director is noted for innovative programming that integrates music with other art forms, enriching the chamber music scene. He is also a committed educator, mentoring young musicians through masterclasses and workshops.
