Guest Conductor _ Soo-Yeoul Choi
 

Born 1979 in Seoul, Soo-Yeoul Choi is receiving wide public attention for his unique talents and deep interest in contemporary music as well as being a young conductor with strong interpretative power. He is Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra (BPO), where he was appointed in 2017. He has performed the Complete Tone Poems of Richard Strauss with BPO from 2017 to 2019. Before working with BPO, he was Associate Conductor of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO) for 3 years. Also he led as the first ever Asian Conductor the International Ensemble Modern Academy in Frankfurt from 2010 to 2011.

Choi has worked as an assistant of great conductors such as Myung-Whun Chung, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Christoph Eschenbach and Peter Eötvös, and espicially has worked contemporary music series of SPO with composer Unsuk Chin. With TIMF Ensemble, he has performed on a regular basis since 2007.

After studying under Chi-Yong Chung at Korea National University of Arts, he moved to Germany and obtained a Performer's Diploma (Konzertexamen) with highest honors from Dresden University of Arts as a recipent of the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) scholarship in arts.

Choi's conducting engagements include MDR sinfonieorchester Leipzig, Jena Philharmonic, Cologne Chamber, China NCPA, National Taiwan Symphony, Sendai Philharmonic and most major orchestras in Korea.
