Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra

The Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra(DPO) is a metropolitan orchestra based in Daejeon, Republic of Korea at Daejeon Arts Center. With a commitment to inspiring and enriching lives through orchestral experiences, the DPO presents a wide range of repertories from symphony music to chamber music. In May 2023, Jakyung YEAR took up the baton as Artistic Director&Principal Conductor, becoming the 9th person to hold the title. She is known for her distinctive and highly sensitive baton technique and authentic music interpretation. The orchestra typically performs approximately 80 times a year, offering a range of series designed to provide fascinating musical experiences throughout the year.

The ‘Masters Series’ is a representative subscription concert program that collaborates with world-renowned musicians, while the ‘Discovery Series’ explores interesting musical themes. The ‘Chamber Series’ highlights the charm of deep and delicate chamber music, and the ‘Matinee Concert’ provides a peaceful and refreshing musical experience with commentaries. Through the ‘DPO Close-Up,’ the orchestra delivers high-quality performances up close with the orchestra’s musicians. Reflecting the values of collaboration and inclusivity, the orchestra also brings music to every corner of the city through the ‘Outreach Concert’, spreading the joy of music to the public.

The Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra has expanded its territory beyond the national borders, performing in various countries around the world. In 2004, the orchestra toured the United States, performing in Washington (Seattle), Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Carnegie Hall in New York. In 2005 and 2015, the orchestra was invited to the 'Asian Orchestra Week' as a representative of the country and presented successful performances in Tokyo and Osaka. In 2012, the orchestra toured Europe, becoming the first Korean municipal orchestra to perform at Musikverein in Vienna, and also appeared in Prague, Budapest, and Munich.
