Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra

The Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra(DPO) is based in Daejeon, Republic of Korea. Dedicated to inspiring and enriching lives through orchestral experiences, the DPO presents a wide range of repertoires from symphonies to chamber music. In May 2023, Jakyung YEAR was appointed as the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor, becoming the ninth person to hold the title.

Performing around 80 concerts annually, the DPO captivates audiences through its signature series. The ‘Masters Series’ features collaborations with world-renowned musicians. The ‘Discovery Series’ explores interesting musical themes, and the ‘Chamber Series’ highlights delicate chamber music. The ‘Matinee Concert’ offers a peaceful and refreshing musical experience with commentaries, while the ‘DPO Close-Up’ delivers exceptional performances in close proximity to the orchestra’s musicians. Through the 'Outreach Concert,' the orchestra brings music to diverse communities across the city.

Internationally, the DPO has made its mark. It toured the U.S. in 2004, performing in Washington(Seattle), Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Carnegie Hall in New York. The orchestra was invited to Japan’s ‘Asian Orchestra Week’ in 2005 and 2015, performing in Tokyo and Osaka. In 2012, the DPO became the first Korean municipal orchestra to play at Vienna’s Musikverein, with additional performances in Prague, Budapest, and Munich. In 2017, the DPO was invited to perform at France's Saint-Malo Festival and Germany's Saarland Music Festival, leaving a deep impression on audiences in the heart of classical music.

In 2024, celebrating its 40th anniversary, the orchestra once again graced the European stage. The tour began at the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna, followed by acclaimed performances at the Liszt Academy in Budapest and the Lisinski Hall in Zagreb. This tour reaffirmed the DPO’s artistic excellence and its profound ability to deeply resonate with international audiences.
